Two Matching Tables: Friday Update

It hasn’t been easy but I finally rounded the home stretch and crossed the finish line for these two matching tables.

I put in the work this week to get them done, working well into the night each evening, but with a little organization I was able to get there.

The end of a project entails all the fine details and small tasks coming together. You’d think it’s simply sand and finish, but it’s not.

On Monday I;

  • Filled holes and cracks in the legs.

  • Sanded the leg assemblies prior to putting the tables together.

  • Put the tables together around the bases.

After the glue dried on Tuesday I;

  • Cut the tops to size.

  • Routed the edges of the top.

  • Filled voids in the table tops.

On Wednesday after the filler dried I;

  • Sanded 80 to 220 grit.

  • Wet the tables to raise the grain before a final sand.

  • Applied finish on the underside of the table.

With the finish on the bottom of the table dry on Thursday I;

  • Stuck on the felt pads.

  • Flipped the tables over and applied finish to the tops.

And today is Friday where I get to take final pictures and film the intro and outros for the two videos. The last step is to deliver these tables to the client on Monday, take final photos in their space and that will close this project, minus finishing the videos for YouTube.

There’s a lot that went into these two tables and I have more to say, but for now, I’m exhausted and looking forward to cleaning the shop to get ready for my next project.
