One Project Done. 3 More Start: Friday Update
While I’m still in possession of the slab dining table for a couple more weeks I’m considering the project done. Yes, delivery will be a chore, but that’s small enough to call the project complete.
Plus I finished the YouTube video, available to watch now.
The close of one opens the door for new projects to start. I have one client project and two for me, well kind of.
Table Refinishing and A Chair Repair
I mentioned these tables last week. A mid-century modern coffee table and two matching end tables which have been well loved. Luckily the finish is shellac which is much easier to work with than a varnish. This week I started the cleaning process to remove any water marks and stains.
Given these tables were covered in shellac I was hoping to apply a little alcohol with some steel wool to buff the stains out but the stains went so deep they needed a full strip in some spots to completely remove them. That means more elbow grease required to remove and reapply the shellac, but it’s worth it to restore these back to their former glory.
Once the tables were cleaned and spot free the next step was to apply a thick layer of shellac to prepare for the polishing process. I didn’t get to the actual polishing and next week I’ll be on vacation, but at least the tables are ready to rumble when I return.
The second part of the project is repairing a chair which has the back rail separating from the sides.
Picture Frames
My daughter’s bedroom has been needing a fresh coat of paint for a while, plus she wanted a pink room. Combine those two things and my wife and I painted her room over the weekend. Now it’s time for my contribution to the upgrade, picture frames.
My wife has these Disney prints from classic movies which she would like framed to hang in my daughter’s room. The problem is I can’t decide what wood to use. So while I figure that out I decided to start a completely different project.
A Stool
Another project that’s been on my back burner for a while. I built a toddler tower for my kids years ago with the intention of converting it to a stool when they no longer needed the safety cage.
Fortunately, my skills have improved and rather than modify the existing stool I decided to build a brand new one to use up some scraps I had lying around.
I have a design and a plan. I cleaned up some lumber in preparation.
