Gery Schirado’s Memorial Plaque

Earlier this year Durham’s longtime mayor, Gery Schirado, passed away and to honor his 27 years of dedicated service the city wanted to mount his gavel on a plaque to be displayed in city hall.

The city reached out to me as a resident and woodworker to make a plaque in his honor. With a highly figured piece of walnut in hand I got to work planing, sanding, routing, and mostly, polishing the plaque with a shellac finish.

A simple project, but a special one which will help us all remember Mr. Schirado.
